Tolland Legions
From Legendarium
"What be more honorable then to serve as a Legion. No wild beast be so brave as they, victorious over all, so the bards say" - Cruin the Poet
Tolland's Finest
For some, farming in the gentile countrysides of Tolland is satisfying, for others, slaving over a hot fire to perfect killing machines is their of fun. For the Legionaries of Tolland, killing is their thing, and they do it well. Although not to overshadow the more honorable roles of the Legions, one has to admit that they are supreme assassins on the battle field, with few worthy rivals.
Responsabilities:
- Gate Guards
- Elite Warriors
- Personal errands of the King
Recruiting Legions: Unlike the various other branches of Tolland's army, no one can simply join up to the rankings of the Legions (Including the wealthy nobles). Legions are hand-picked from the front lines only during wartime. A Legionary Recruiter is commonly disguised on the field as a petty officer or fellow soldier and is treated no different on the field as a normal footman. He looks for men that exhibit signs of bravery, leadership, and physical and mental talent far beyond that of the average man.
Training: Once recruited into the legion's ranks a the soldier is subjected to the harshest treatment considerable. By the second week many of them drop out in shame. By week three, they are expected to be able defeat wild animals (although kept secret as to which kinds exactly) without armor and only a short sword.
Legionary Standards:
- Weapons:The standard legion is armed with a unique weapon, a sledge-sickle (if you will), made a custom weight specially for each man. The sledge-sickle is a long sledge-hammer with one side as a hammer, and the other a sickle. This allows the warrior to not only crush bones, but sever limbs.
- Armor: The legions are given the strongest armor available, made of a diamond type material that can withstand some of the worst blows. Everything from their ornately decorated helmets, to their finely crafted plate and chain-mail is made of this material.
- Unique Strategies: The Tolland Legion is famous for their battle tactics which combine stealth and power, to defeat armies many times their size. Such tactics were seen during the Khazi-Tollish War when the Immortal Khazmir attempted to invade the Eastern borders with their legendary army known as the Storm of Sand.
