History of Tolland

Tolland has a long, rich history. It congealed around 1500 years before the present age from the warring nations of early man, and quickly became a powerful nation state under the first Archking, Gunnrik I. The year of his ascension to the crown is the year 0 in our date system, which was invented by the early Tollanders and has now spread into worldwide use.

Tolland has existed in three distinct forms throughout its long and storied history. Upon its creation it took the form of an absolute monarchy, in which the Archking ruled over all of his subjects in a feudal system. The nobility consisted of the landed men of the realm, who held control of fiefs of land worked on by the peasants. The kingdom in this form lasted for nearly a thousand years, until the War of Succession broke out and replaced it with a short lived republic under Chancellor Enden Kelligar. The republic lasted for 32 years from 1012 to 1044, when the Crown War was fought, and the new monarchists gained control of the government. The New Kingdom is the form that exists still today.
